Chelsea are looking at buying a potential new midfielder from a club who they have already held transfer talks with this month, according to a report.

There is lots of little bits and pieces going on right now on another winter transfer deadline day, and the movement of Joao Felix could effect other moves and situations. Felix could still join AC Milan this window.

Sources: Chelsea plan to look at goalkeeper setup ‘from top to bottom’ this summer + new CB targets NAMED!!

Chelsea were looking to sign midfielder Nico O’Reilly from Manchester City this window but even that attempt looks to have dwindled away now, with attentions turning elsewhere.

So where now?

Renato Veiga smiles in his Juventus unveiling.

Well, it’s a bit of a puzzle, but our own writer Simon Phillips has some exclusive information on new midfielders that might shed a little bit of light on what is going on.

Phillips has put some updates on his live blog on Substack just now, with a few things going on.

He says:

‘The interest in Mathis Amougou from Saint-Étienne is legit and he’s a real option for today.

‘However, source also says it’s possible we sign a midfielder today from a club ‘we’ve already been talking to’ recently this window. Makes me hope for a Douglas Luiz as we loaned Juventus Renato Veiga. But source also mentions Dortmund. Not great info I know but it’s something for now.’

So it’s difficult to know right now who Chelsea are going for, but this info could create a bit of guessing games and speculation amongst the fan base.
