Chelsea summer signing apologises for horror miss

Chelsea forward Marc Guiu was guilty of a horror miss during the club’s 2-0 win over Servette in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Enzo Maresca claimed his first win as head coach as Chelsea earned a two-goal advantage over the Swiss side in the tie, though the victory could – and should – have been more comfortable.

Spanish starlet Marc Guiu missed a glorious chance to open his account in Chelsea colours, as the summer signing from Barcelona missed an open goal at Stamford Bridge.

The teenager caught goalkeeper Jeremy Frick in possession and appeared to have the simplest task to turn the ball into the gaping goal, but mishit his finish to allow Frick the chance to recover. Guiu then spurned the rebound in a bad moment for the 18-year-old, who took to social media to apologise to the Chelsea fans for the miss.

“Hey Blues, I want to thank you for your support during our game. I’m thrilled we won, but I’m also disappointed in myself for missing that goal,” Guiu posted on X.

“I know I had a great opportunity, and I’m truly sorry it didn’t go in. Please know I’ll keep working hard and learning from my mistakes.🙏🏻 Thanks.”

Maresca offered his support to Guiu following the forward’s substitution and backed the forward to bounce back.

“I said to him he probably doesn’t like easy goals, he likes difficult goals! For me it’s normal, he’s very young, 2006, the youngest in the squad. The way he works off the ball, he runs a lot, he presses, it doesn’t matter, he is going to score for sure.”
