Chelsea set to table £43m bid for Matheus Nunes | OneFootball

Chelsea are preparing to launch a bid worth a guaranteed £39million plus £4m in add-ons for Matheus Nunes, according to Portuguese outlet A Bola via The Daily Mail.

Per the report, Wolverhampton Wanderers are also interested in a move for the midfielder but the prospect of a move to the Molineux stadium ‘doesn’t appeal’ to him.

Nunes has caught the eye with his impressive displays at Sporting Lisbon over the last two seasons and was deservingly voted into the Primeira Liga Team of the Year for the just-concluded campaign.

He could be the second major departure from the Estádio José Alvalade to the top tier of English football this summer, following in the footsteps of Joao Palhinha who recently completed a switch to the newly-promoted Fulham.

Still just 23 years old, Nunes would represent a fantastic addition to Chelsea due to his superb combination of ball-winning and passing abilities while his composure in tight areas is also impressive.

With the duo of Ngolo Kante and Jorginho in their thirties and now entering the final 12 months of their respective contracts at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea will need to make long-term reinforcements in the middle of the park sooner or later and have an opportunity to do just that by securing the services of Nunes.

Despite being linked with a host of players over the last couple of weeks, Chelsea are one of only two Premier League sides yet to make a new signing in the current transfer window with the other being Leicester City.

However, it is only a matter of time before Thomas Tuchel’s men secure their first acquisition with a deal for Raheem Sterling drawing increasingly closer to its completion as The Blues target at least two new additions before they leave for the start of their pre-season tour.
