Chelsea reach verbal agreement on striker to replace the injured Liam Delap

Chelsea have reached a verbal agreement on a striker to come in and replace Liam Delap, but this story has a big twist.

Chelsea’s new striker went down with a pulled hamstring against Fulham on Saturday and the immediate fears was that he could now be out for six to eight weeks. However, reports came out yesterday that suggest it might even be longer than that pending a scan this week. So Chelsea are sweating.

EXCLUSIVE! Enzo Maresca furious that he’s not getting some positions he’s asked for this summer!

So Chelsea have been looking and scrambling around for solutions to replace Delap. They’ve looked at potentially bringing in another striker, and they’ve also looked at ones they already own.

Of course, Nicolas Jackson is still a Chelsea player and it looks like his loan move to Bayern Munich has been cancelled. But something tells me he could still end up going somewhere on this final day of the summer transfer window today.

Because otherwise, why are Chelsea agreeing deals to recall striker Marc Guiu from Sunderland? Because that is exactly what we have done apparently after earlier considering a move to do just this.

Fabrizio Romano amongst others is reporting that Chelsea have agreed a deal with Sunderland to bring Guiu back to Stamford Bridge and cancel his loan move even though he’s only been there for two league games so far.

Romano posted on X last night:

“Chelsea reach verbal agreement with Sunderland to bring back Marc Guiu from his loan.

“Decision made this afternoon as he’s now returning to Chelsea with immediate effect.”

A real mess

The whole situation is a bit of a mess and really unfortunate for Chelsea, for Jackson, and maybe even for Guiu if Jackson does end up staying.

At this point, Chelsea are going into the season with FOUR strikers!
