Chelsea are growing increasingly confident of signing Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho, with TEAMtalk reporting that “Personal terms have already been agreed, and the club has an understanding in place to sign him once the fee is settled. Discussions between Chelsea and United remain ongoing over the transfer amount.”
The 20-year-old Argentine has been told he has no future at Old Trafford and, crucially for Chelsea, has made it clear he only wants to move to Stamford Bridge. That firm stance has put the Blues in a strong position during negotiations, as United weigh up their options.

Manchester United initially valued Garnacho at £50 million, but Chelsea believe £35 million is a fair price given the circumstances. United’s softening stance comes as the transfer window edges towards its close and the new Premier League season gets underway.
Chelsea are maintaining patience in the talks, confident that Garnacho’s preference for a move to west London will help break the impasse. The player has already turned down approaches from other European clubs to focus on sealing his switch to Stamford Bridge.
The potential sale of Garnacho carries extra significance for Manchester United’s finances. As a homegrown player, any transfer fee received would be logged as pure profit under Premier League accounting rules. Such deals give clubs more flexibility under spending regulations and could be used to fund major incoming transfers.
TEAMtalk report that United are actively targeting Carlos Baleba, a player expected to command a significant fee, which further explains their careful handling of Garnacho’s situation.

While eager to finalise the move, Chelsea are also balancing their focus on outgoings to ensure squad balance and compliance with financial rules. Their approach to Garnacho’s signing has been calm, avoiding public pressure while working steadily towards an agreement.
Sources suggest Chelsea hope to make significant progress by the weekend, with the belief that “Garnacho could get closer to being a Chelsea player before the end of the week.”
Garnacho’s determination has been a defining factor in the transfer’s progress. With no desire to remain at Old Trafford and no interest in alternatives abroad, his stance has strengthened Chelsea’s position.
If the deal is completed, Garnacho would provide Chelsea with an injection of pace, direct attacking play and a player with Premier League experience at a young age. For United, the sale would bring financial clarity and the opportunity to reinvest in their squad.

For Chelsea, this deal feels like a clever piece of business. Garnacho is young, exciting, and already proven in the Premier League, which is exactly the type of signing Chelsea have been leaning towards. Securing him for £35 million, if that is the final figure, would be seen as a coup in the current market.
For Manchester United supporters, the situation is more complicated. Garnacho’s talent is clear, and selling a homegrown prospect to a rival is always contentious. However, with the player unwilling to stay and the lure of pure profit under financial rules, some may accept that it makes strategic sense. If the proceeds are used to land a player like Carlos Baleba, fans will expect the investment to improve the starting XI immediately.
The emotional aspect will remain. Garnacho is still viewed as a player with untapped potential, and letting him flourish elsewhere could be a source of regret. But with time in the window running out, a deal that works for all parties is becoming increasingly likely. For Chelsea, this could be one of the most impactful moves of their summer.
