Chelsea plan Liverpool ‘hijack’ but Klopp has been boosted by Barcelona registration woes | OneFootball

Chelsea are looking to beat Liverpool to the summer signing of Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes in another ‘hijack’ attempt, according to reports.

The Blues have already come in late to beat Arsenal to the signing of Mykhaylo Mudryk while there are reports today that they are hoping to beat Tottenham to Sporting Lisbon defender Pedro Porro.

And now the Daily Mail insists that Chelsea ‘could hijack yet another transfer deal’ as they add Wolves star Nunes ‘to their list of transfer targets’.

Liverpool have been linked with Nunes for weeks as Reds boss Jurgen Klopp looks to finalise his targets for the summer transfer window.

Chelsea are ‘no strangers to jumping ahead of their Premier League rivals’ and ‘any potential move for the Portugal star could now be hijacked by the Blues’.

Liverpool are ‘keen’ to pair Nunes and Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham in their midfield next season and now Nunes ‘may not last a year at Molineux’ as the Reds look to pounce.

Wolves broke their transfer record to sign the Portugal international by splashing £38m on the former Sporting Lisbon player in August.

The Reds pulled out of a deal to sign Nunes in the summer transfer window but the 23-year-old has been a standout performer as Wolves battle relegation.

The Daily Mail adds: ‘They look set to try and rectify this error in the summer by attempting to bring Nunes to Anfield, but may face stiff competition from Chelsea, especially with the spending power of the London club under owner Todd Boehly.’

Liverpool might have increased competition for Nunes but they could be cheered slightly by the news that Barcelona are still unable to register Gavi as a first-team player.

Spanish publication Marca claim that Barcelona have been dealt a ‘serious setback’ despite the ‘withdrawal’ of Gerard Pique and Memphis Depay, who has joined Atletico Madrid.

Those two players leaving the club are still ‘not enough’ to register Spain international Gavi as Barca ‘still fails to comply with article 101 and 93.6.’

Marca adds: ‘The first stipulates that renewals take into account the limit of the cost of next year’s squad. And the second includes that for entities with exceptional income, such as Barçawith his levers, he must present a Treasury plan for the next two seasons.’

That means that the contract renewal that Gavi agreed with Barcelona ‘is not yet effective’ giving clubs, such as Liverpool, hope of luring the prospect away from Barcelona.

Liverpool have long been admirers of the midfielder with his release clause currently remaining at £40m – but Barcelona are ‘confident that the continuity of its young stars is not in danger’.
