Chelsea have enquired into the availability of Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho this month.
Enzo Maresca’s side are considering the signing of another wide option and have approached Manchester United to discuss a deal for Garnacho. United are willing to consider proposals for the 20-year-old, though rejected a £40m bid from Napoli this week.
The Italian side have made Garnacho their top target to replace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is set to sign for Paris Saint-Germain.
United are not actively encouraging offers for Garnacho but will sell for the right price, given his status as a high-profile academy product and the need to raise funds for reinvestment. He is valued at around £70m.
The Athletic are reporting that Chelsea have now asked to be informed on the conditions of a potential deal. Garnacho is one of several options under consideration at Stamford Bridge, alongside Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens.
The duo fit the profile Chelsea are seeking, as attacking wide options with room for growth. Garnacho has scored 23 goals in 117 senior appearances for Manchester United but has not been an automatic starter under new head coach Amorim. He was dropped from the squad to face Manchester City last month but has since returned to favour.
“That is clear [that Garnacho has a big future]. He has talent. He needs to learn to play in a different position. He needs to play better inside,” the United boss explained ahead of Thursday’s clash against Southampton.
“He improves a lot in the recovering position when he doesn’t have the ball. But doing that, sometimes he’s not in the right place to make transitions like he was in the past.
“I prefer to defend and then build up with the entire team to reach the final third. He’s finding the best way to play in this system.
“He’s improving during training. He started the last game. Let’s see tomorrow. I think he changed the way he sees himself.”
