Chelsea have been put into a tricky situation by the sudden wave of injuries they’ve suffered in defence, and there are now rumours that the Blues could recall Trevoh Chalobah from his loan at Crystal Palace.
Not long ago this idea was ruled out because there was apparently to recall clause in the loan. However now Simon Johnson of the Athletic is reporting that it’s a possibility, we do believe it’s true.
Wesley Fofana is out for a couple of months at least. Benoit Badiashile for a little less. Aaron Anselmino has been recalled from Boca Juniors, and Josh Acheampong just made an impressive debut at centre back at the weekend.
We’re a little short, sure. But do we really need to add Chalobah as well as Anselmino and Acheampong, just to cover a couple of months?
This was the exact point that Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner made after our game against them on Saturday:
“I could see that there was (Axel) Disasi and Tosin (Adarabioyo) on the bench,” he said in his post-match press conference. “I don’t know if you need (more) if you play with two. I was just reading that Anselmino comes back so they have five (centre-backs).
“I don’t know if they need eight, I don’t know what they are planning. Trevoh is doing very well for us and we are planning with him.”

If Chalobah is recalled, it would be a really damning indictment of what Enzo Maresca thinks of Tosin Adarabioyo and Axel Disasi, both of whom were left on the bench for Acheampong at the weekend.
Tosin has a little more rope because he arrived in the summer – but if Disasi really finds himself at the bottom of the pecking order behind loan recalls and 18 year olds, his time at Chelsea is surely running out.
