Marc Cucurella is having the year of his life right now.
After turning around his career with Chelsea last season, he went to the Euros with Spain and became a legit star for that team as they won the tournament. He brought that form into this season, playing really well for Enzo Maresca’s team and becoming one of the Italian coach’s favourites.
He played a crazy number of minutes last season, really putting his body on the line for the team. He was a vital part of the team which won the Conference League and the Club World Cup in the last few weeks.
Marc Cucurella set to sign a new contract with Chelsea according to Fabrizio Romano.
Not only that, but he’s also now one of the most experienced players in this Chelsea squad at 27. He’s not a traditional sort of leader, but definitely has a strong personality which makes him well loved in the dressing room. His attitude on the pitch is top notch too.
All of that makes him a vital part of this squad, and the club are preparing to reward him with a new contract. Fabrizio Romano has just Tweeted that Chelsea “will offer a new deal to Marc Cucurella… talks will advance soon.”
The transfer insider insists that Cucurella is “happy at Chelsea and the club are very happy with Marc.”
The sporting directors have worked hard to bring down the wage bill, and their struggles to get rid of Ben Chilwell and Raheem Sterling show exactly why it’s important to restrict base salaries.
But Cucurella has more than earned a raise, and given all the above we expect him to become one of the best paid players in the squad.
