Chelsea have added Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton to their list of long term targets, but a deal before the end of the window is difficult according to Ben Jacobs.
The Blues are set for a busy end to the window, with a deal for Alejandro Garnacho confirmed yesterday, whilst they are still working on a number of outgoings.
Xavi Simons had been expected to join, but he has instead gone to Tottenham, with Chelsea still looking at bringing one more attacker in.
Fermin Lopez has been mentioned as a possibility, whilst it’s been reported Chelsea could have a surprise target up their sleeve.
However, one position Chelsea fans surely weren’t expected to be linked with is midfield given the abundance of options, but that’s exactly what’s happened and Jacobs has provided an update.

He took to X.com and said:
“Chelsea have added Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton to their list of long-term targets.
“Tough deal to do before Monday, and nothing yet to suggest anything is advancing, as Palace plan to keep hold of Wharton for at least another year.”
Chelsea were linked with Wharton when he was at Blackburn Rovers, and he impressed in the goalless draw at Stamford Bridge on the opening game of the season.
Any move would likely be next summer, and you would imagine Palace would demand a high fee for one of their star players.
There’s clearly an element of future planning with interest in Wharton, but it raises the question as to who would leave to create space for him.
