Genk may well be looking for a new goalkeeper this summer. HLN are reporting that Chelsea have decided not to loan Mike Penders back to the club for the 2025/2026 season. The Premier League side signed Penders at the start of last season but allowed him to remain with Genk for the rest of the season. While Hendrik van Crombrugge was number one at times last season, Thorsten Fink opted for Penders for the run in.

Whether or not Penders will remain at Chelsea is undecided. It is highly unlikely that the club would see him as ready to step up to the first team and challenge for the number one spot, his experience of first team football was invaluable last season and continuing that development will be crucial for the young goalkeeper. Clearly, the sides sister club in France, Strasbourg, is one option for Penders. The 19-year-old played 26 games for Genk last season and got better with every passing game.
