Liverpool have ended their long-time interest in Leeds United star Crycensio Summerville, according to reports by Leeds Live.

Despite being long-time front-runners to sign the 22-year-old Dutchman, the Merseyside club are expected to target Crystal Palace forward Michael Olise with their available transfer funds and have decided to economise by pulling out of the race to sign Summerville.

However, the Reds could still have a part to play in his transfer. If Liverpool are to sign Olise, Crystal Palace are expected to use some of the prospective £60 million transfer fee to bring Summerville to Selhurst Park.

Leeds United have valued their prize asset at around £35-40 million, and with multiple Premier League clubs vying for his signature, the Whites will hope to capitalise on a potential bidding war.

If Palace are to launch a successful bid for the forward, they will have to fend off significant interest from London rivals Chelsea and Fulham.

With Liverpool no longer in the race, Chelsea are believed to be clear of the chasing pack in their pursuit of Summerville and the club are expected to table an offer in the next few weeks.

Arne Slot's appointment may have derailed Summerville pursuit

While Liverpool had been strong favourites to sign the Netherlands international, the appointment of countryman Arne Slot may have re-routed the club’s summer transfer plans.

It has become clear that Summerville is not a priority signing for the new Reds’ boss, despite Liverpool’s previous interest.

Leeds United’s financial position after missing out on an immediate return to the Premier League necessitates the sale of their star man.

With the Whites needing to stay within the EFL’s tighter Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), it will be difficult for the club to resist interest in the player and reject a good offer.

The club is at a disadvantage after their narrow play-off final defeat to Southampton. Leeds will be negotiating the sale of their top scorer on the backfoot, knowing that they will likely have to sell in the upcoming window.

As a result, one of the more recent teams to have joined the Summerville transfer saga, Bayer Leverkusen may be set to make a low-ball offer. According to German sports outlet SportsBLID, relayed by Sportwitness, the Bundesliga Champions believe that they can sign Summerville for as little as £17 million.

Chelsea favourites for Summerville signing

Having recently appointed new manager Enzo Maresca, Chelsea are expected to launch their pursuit of the dynamic winger.

The Blues have been linked with Summerville for a while now and the forward would represent a more logical signing than some of their recent deals.

As club owner Todd Boehly looks to be more astute in the upcoming summer window, having previously spent over £1 billion on transfers since his arrival, the attacker could prove to be both an exciting signing, able to satisfy fans' hunger for an attacking arrival, and a bargain buy.

Last season, Summerville fired Leeds into promotion contention. His impressive 20-goal return suggests that he should be able to find form playing for one of the strongest sides in the top flight.

The attackers will be buoyant fresh off the back of a stellar campaign; a move to one of the most well-resourced clubs in the Premier League would make sense for all parties involved.
