Chelsea are one of the clubs considering a swoop for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, according to the Independent.
The Blues considered signing Isak last summer but were unable to do so. However, it appears they may now make a move to secure the Swede.
Isak reportedly wants to leave the Magpies this summer and is away from the squad as he seeks a move. Chelsea are monitoring the situation.
Isak is an elite striker who would take the Blues into a different stratosphere if he signs. Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has praised his ‘ruthless mentality to scoring goals’.
He bagged 27 goals last term to spearhead the Magpies to the League Cup and a spot in the UEFA Champions League.
The 25-year-old, who earns £120,000 per week, would be a terrific addition for any club in the world.
Liverpool are also in the race, despite signing Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.
A move to the Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal is not on the cards for the former Real Sociedad ace.
Chelsea paying over £120 million to sign Isak would be overkill, considering how well Pedro and Delap have played since signing.
Pedro scored three times to help Chelsea clinch the Club World Cup. Delap bagged once and proved a menace to opposition defenders.
Despite his profligacy, Nicolas Jackson is still a decent striker who should get a chance to redeem himself next season after a disastrous end to the previous campaign.
Chelsea must resist the temptation to swoop for Isak. They should focus on reinforcing other areas of the squad instead.
