Chelsea are ‘closely monitoring’ Brighton forward Georginio Rutter ahead of the summer transfer window.

Rutter has had an impressive debut season at Brighton after arriving from Leeds United last summer. The Frenchman has eight goals and three assists across all competitions for the Seagulls, who are pushing for a place in Europe.

His strong season follows an excellent campaign with Leeds last term, where Rutter provided 15 assists in the second tier to earn a Premier League transfer.

Chelsea have been impressed by his performances at the Amex Stadium and are weighing up a summer approach, according to Sky Sports. The West Londoners have regularly raided Brighton for talent in recent transfer windows, signing Marc Cucurella, Robert Sanchez and Moises Caicedo from the South Coast side for large fees.

Brighton are reluctant to lose the 22-year-old and are in a strong negotiating position, with Rutter contracted to the club until 2028. The Seagulls will demand a significant profit on their £40m investment in the player last summer.

Rutter’s ability to operate as a forward and in an advanced midfield role appeal to Chelsea, amid doubts over the future of Christopher Nkunku. The latter has struggled for a regular role under Enzo Maresca this season.
