Downie notes that Sunderland did try to sign Adingra in January as part of the deal that saw Tom Watson move south to Brighton for £10m.

He will become the club’s latest arrival following the signing of Chemsdine Talbi from Club Brugge for a reported £19.5m, with the Moroccan signing a four-year contract at the club until 2029.
