Chelsea are close to reaching an agreement with Borussia Dortmund over a permanent deal for Carney Chukwuemeka according to Fabrizio Romano.

Chukwuemeka is one of several players Chelsea are looking to move on before the end of the window, with the midfielder not part of Enzo Maresca’s plans.

The 21-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Dortmund, and has made it clear his preference is to return to the club.

Chelsea and Dortmund close to reaching agreement for Chukwuemeka

Dortmund had an offer of a loan with an obligation rejected for Chukwuemeka, which Chelsea reportedly described as “insulting.”

Chukwuemeka is believed to have attracted interest from three other clubs, but it now appears he’s closing in on a return to Germany.

Romano has stated on his Italian YouTube channel that Dortmund are close to reaching an agreement with Chelsea worth €20m plus bonuses for Chukwuemeka, and a percentage of future sale.

Juventus had made an approach for Chukwuemeka, which was understood to be a loan, but Chelsea have always insisted they are only open to a permanent transfer.

Chukwuemeka scored one goal in 17 appearances during his loan spell with Dortmund, but boss Nico Kovac has stated he’s a big fan of the Englishman.

The former Aston Villa star joined Chelsea for around £20m in 2022, but his time at Stamford Bridge has been plagued by injury, and he’s made just 32 appearances for the Blues.

Aaron Anselmino close to joining Dortmund on loan

Chukwuemeka might not be the only player swapping Chelsea for Dortmund before the window closes, and the German club have their eyes on Aaron Anselmino.

Anselmino has reportedly said yes to joining the club on loan, which would be a great move providing he plays on a regular basis to help develop his game.

There had been talk of Chelsea being unsure what they would do with Argentine, but it now seems he’ll be playing Champions League football, and it will be interesting to see his development.
