According to a recent report from Football.London, Chelsea are preparing a new contract for Conor Gallagher amid heavy interest from other Premier League clubs. It is understood that his current contract at Stamford Bridge expires in the summer of 2025, however, the Blues are considering tying him down for a longer period as they look to offer him a neat wage increment to ensure he stays at the West London club.

Gallagher’s Campaign For Chelsea So Far This Season

Gallagher is having a tough campaign at the West London club as he has struggled to be consistent for them at the centre of the park. The 22-year-old has only found the back of the net once and managed to pick up just one assist over 26 appearances for Chelsea during this season across multiple competitions.

The England international has caught the eye at times but has failed to be reliable in the central areas after averaging 1.5 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, 0.5 clearances, 0.6 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game in Premier League football. However, he deserves credit for being tidy with his ball distribution after completing 83.1% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).

Good Call From Graham Potter In Extending His Contract?

Gallagher remains a solid tackler of the ball and can make some crucial interceptions for his side when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. He has the ability to strike the ball with power from long range. Gallagher is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also function as a holding midfielder or as an attacking midfielder if required.

The English sensation has also got the vision to create some meaningful opportunities for his teammates down the middle. He is usually quite clever with his movements in and around the opposition penalty box and can create space for himself to land a few shots in on the target.

However, things have not worked out for Gallagher at Chelsea this season even though he has been given enough opportunities. Still, the Blues have done well to being patient with his progress as he has shown to have the potential of playing at a high level at the West London club.

Gallagher is well-disciplined and could prove his worth at Stamford Bridge if he keeps developing himself in the long run. At 22, the future is quite promising for the English talent, so Graham Potter’s decision of offering him a contract extension instead of sanctioning his exit at the end of the season is a good call.
