Chelsea are convinced about the quality of Brighton’s Facundo Buonanotte as they close in on a loan deal according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Blues agreed a deal for Alejandro Garnacho earlier this week, and had been expected to sign Xavi Simons as well.
However, Simons has joined Tottenham after Chelsea opted against making an offer for the 22-year-old Dutch international.
There were talks of Barcelona’s Fermin Lopez, but it seems the Blues are now moving in on a surprise signing not many people would have seen coming.

The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Leicester City, where he scored six goals and registered three assists in 35 appearances in all competitions.
It’s clear that Buonanotte will provide cover in the number ten position, and on the right wing, and Romano has provided an update.
He said as quoted via X.com:
“Chelsea are convinced about the quality of Facundo Buonanotte who had options like Leeds, Roma and Dortmund.
“Chelsea are discussing terms about potential future buy option after initial loan.”
The Argentine joined Brighton in January 2023, and has made 50 appearances for the Seagulls to date, but has fallen out of favour.
Chelsea had been linked with a move for Fermin Lopez, but it appears that deal was never particularly advanced despite some reports.
The Blues were interested in Lopez, whilst it was reported Maresca had spoken to the Spaniard on more than one occasion.

However, Barcelona were said to feel they didn’t think Lopez would leave, and the player never told the club he wanted to leave.
Chelsea could look to explore a move for Lopez at a later date, but it appears they’ve got their alternative in Buonanotte.
