The future of Fermin Lopez still remains uncertain as we enter the final few days of the transfer market.

The Spanish media have primarily reported that the Barcelona forward wants to continue at the club despite Chelsea reportedly wanting to double his salary.

However, Fermin hasn’t made a final decision yet, and the transfer saga remains open.

Latest on Fermin’s future

Keeping that in mind, a recent report from Mundo Deportivo has offered key insights into Fermin Lopez’s transfer saga.

The report suggests that Fermin, although keen on staying at Barcelona, maintains doubts about continuing at the club after receiving input that he should move on due to increased competition.

Fermin is indeed competing with the likes of Gavi, Dani Olmo and others for a place in the starting eleven this season, although Gavi has recently picked up an injury.

Keeping that in mind, it will be difficult for him to gain regular game time, whereas Chelsea would be offering him the opportunity to become a key player under Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea, in fact, are very much interested in sealing a late move for Fermin, knowing the player has undeniable quality.

While Barcelona have been pretty clear about their asking price of €90 million, there is a prevailing belief that the Catalans might want to consider an offer of around €70 million.

Chelsea had earlier tabled a bid of €50 million plus add-ons. If they can improve the cash figure and utilise the add-ons to reach a €70-75 million valuation, Barcelona may want to reconsider.

The Catalans, after all, are desperately looking for fresh revenue as they look to register all the players.

Although the sale of Fermin won’t be enough to return to the 1:1 rule, it will help greatly and could go a long way in easing the burden on the wage bill.
