Chelsea are having a dismal campaign this season and they have already started planning and executing strategies for next season. The club have identified Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez as a potential target for the summer transfer window, according to The Mirror.

The Blues want to strengthen their defensive line, which hasn’t performed up to the standards in the ongoing season. The pursuit of Kerkez will be a move in the direction of building a core side of young players to get dividends in the long run.

Milos Kerkez – A Potential Performer

Milos Kerkez was signed by AFC Bournemouth last summer for a reported fee of £15.5 million deal. In his very first season, the left-back has earned the faith of the manager. He has become a regular starter for the English side already.

The 20-year-old has appeared in 26 games this season so far. He is yet to score his maiden goal for Bournemouth but has provided an assist. He is averaging 1.6 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 1.9 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).

The Hungarian defender is good at providing crosses and even dribbles his way often. These qualities make him a good pick as the left-back. However, he needs to work on his defensive aspects and commit lessers fouls. He is still young, meaning he can improve and emerge as a reliable name in the football world.

Why are Chelsea running behind Milos Kerkez?

Chelsea’s alleged interest in Milos Kerkez is understandable as Ian Maatsen is currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund. He is expected to permanently switch to the German side in the summer. Marc Cucurella hasn’t been convincing enough and Ben Chilwell is struggling with injuries.

Hence, the Blues desperately need a left-back for the next season. The signing of Kerkez will be a good move, considering his potential to excel in that spot. With proper guidance and more experience under his belt, he can serve the club in the long run.
