Che Adams’ future at Southampton is in doubt as we approach the final games of the season.

The Scotland international has been with the Saints since making a £15 million switch from Birmingham City.

He has been a regular presence in the side during the last five years, but his contract is set to expire in June.

This means he will be able to walk away from St. Mary’s for nothing at the end of the campaign, unless an extension can be agreed.

These final four games of the term, along with the play-offs, could prove to be Adams’ final games for the Hampshire outfit.

Leeds United join Wolves chase

Premier League side Wolves have held a long-standing interest in signing Adams from Southampton.

Gary O’Neil’s side attempted a summer move for the striker, which was blocked on deadline day by the Saints.

However, according to Teamtalk, Leeds United are now also set to join the race for the 27-year-old.

O’Neil is keen to bolster Wolves’ attacking options, but promotion to the Premier League from the Yorkshire outfit could scupper their attempts to lure the Scot to Molineux.

Southampton's own promotion bid could also sway Adams' decision, as he may opt to remain at the club if they can earn their place back in the top flight.

Carlton Palmer makes Leeds United claim

Carlton Palmer has given his verdict on the transfer situation surrounding Adams going into the summer.

He believes the forward will depart St. Mary’s this year, and that Leeds would be a great next destination for his career.

“For Leeds to have any chance of signing Che Adams they’ve got to be in the Premier League,” Palmer told FLW.

“Then it’s the opportunity of playing.

“Che won’t want to go to Wolves and be sat on the bench, or anywhere sat on the bench.

“But I think it would be a good move.

“I’d like to see him at Leeds United, but I think it would be a good move for Wolves and Gary O’Neil if they were able to capture his signature.”

Russell Martin hails Preston performance

Martin has praised the forward’s level of performance following the team’s 3-0 win over Preston North End on Tuesday evening.

Adams bagged a brace as the Saints earned a crucial three points in their race for automatic promotion to the Premier League.

The Scotland international had chances to complete a hat-trick, but was ultimately hauled off before the end of the game, with the Southampton boss keeping an eye on their upcoming games.

"He understands what's expected of him,” said Martin, via the Daily Echo.

“I think he's in a really good place. I think he's free.

"He's really excited at the opportunity in front of him to try and help this club get back to the Premier League, which is perfect for him and everyone else.

"I'm really enjoying working with him.

“He's a great character. I've said this to you so many times.

“He is a top man.

"We need to keep him in this place for as long as possible because he looks like he's going to score all the time."

It’s understood Southampton have offered Adams a new deal, but it remains to be seen whether Martin can convince him to remain with the club long-term.
