Charlton Athletic have announced the news that midfielder Lauren Bruton is retiring from professional football.

The Addicks confirmed the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

The 30-year-old has spent the last two seasons with Charlton Athletic. Bruton has made 17 Barclays Women’s Championship appearances for the South East Londoners in which she has scored one goal. Injuries denied Bruton the opportunity to play a greater role for The Addicks.

Bruton started her senior career with Arsenal. Having joined the club as a 15-year-old, the midfielder made her senior debut for the North Londoners a little over 12 months’ later. After six years with The Gunners, Bruton joined Reading. She played an important role for The Royals as they climbed into the top tier and established themselves at that level. The midfielder joined latest club Charlton Athletic in summer 2021 and she has contributed to The Addicks’ development as a full-time professional side.

After her retirement was announced, Bruton said “Football has been my whole life for so long. I’ve been very fortunate to be able to play alongside so many amazing players and staff and I will leave with many great memories. Now, I look forward to my next step in life after football.”

Bruton’s final career appearance came as Charlton Athletic battled out a 1-1 derby draw with Crystal Palace at The Valley last month.
