Charlie Austin has revealed his happiness after sealing a return to former club Swindon Town.

The 33-year-old had most recently been playing in Australia with Brisbane Roar but after failing to settle Down Under, he revealed earlier this month that he would be returning to England.

And, a return to the Robins was finally announced this afternoon, with Austin taking to Twitter to explain exactly what it means to him.

Delighted to finally get the deal sorted and be able to announce it, a new chapter in the footballing book but also a revisit to another one. Look forward to get started in a couple of weeks time.”

Bringing the former QPR man in is a major coup for the League Two side and they will hope that his goals can fire the club to promotion, with Scott Lindsey’s side currently fifth in the table and five points away from the automatic places.

Austin scored 31 goals in 54 league games for Swindon during his previous spell with the club, after they had signed him from non-league Poole Town.

The verdict

This is an excellent addition for Swindon Town as Austin is a goalscorer and they need another clinical option in the final third to help their push for promotion.

Of course, the fact he has a connection with the club is an added bonus and it will certainly mean a lot to the striker when he pulls on the red shirt once again.

Going by his message he will need a few weeks to get up to speed but this could be a decisive signing in the promotion battle.
