This win snaps a five-match winless streak in the competition and hands the Chipolopolo their very first group stage defeat in the tournament's history. After a tightly contested first half, the Leopards emerged from the break with renewed intensity. In the 51st minute, Jephte Kitambala combined brilliantly with Ibrahim Matobo, who unleashed a thunderous strike under the crossbar.

Zambia tried to respond but was repeatedly denied by the commanding presence of Brudel Efonge in goal. In the 71st minute, substitute Horso Mwaku capped off a lightning-fast counterattack started by Oscar Kabwit to seal the result.

Buoyed by standout performances from Matobo, Kitambala, and Efonge, DR Congo is firmly back in the race for the quarter-finals. Zambia, meanwhile, must regroup quickly to avoid an early exit.
