The January transfer window is now in full swing, and teams from the Championship will be eager to take this chance to improve their squads.
This winter transfer window is a chance for all 24 Championship teams to make necessary changes to their squads as they prepare for the second half of the campaign.
That doesn’t mean every team will be looking at incomings, as this may be an opportunity for some clubs to move unwanted players on as they look to free up squad space or cut their wage bill.
There are teams like Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Southampton who are performing very well this season and may not be looking to make too many changes this month.
But teams like Rotherham United, QPR, and Sheffield Wednesday, who are sitting in the relegation zone, will see this month as a chance to get better and give them the best hope of surviving relegation.
The transfer window has completed its first week, so here we have looked at the latest transfer news around the Championship…
Blackburn Rovers may look to demand a transfer fee of £10-15 million for midfielder Adam Wharton amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur, as reported by Football Insider.
It was announced in December that Wharton had extended his contract at the club until the summer of 2028.
But that news has seemingly done little to put Premier League sides off, as it was reported by Football Insider earlier this week, that both Tottenham and Everton were stepping up their interest in the player.
Now, in a new report from the same outlet, it claims that Blackburn are desperate to keep hold of Wharton and are ready to reject any offers they receive.
However, it also states that Blackburn may find it hard to reject a big offer, especially one that falls into the bracket of their £10–15 million valuation.
Ever since Southampton were relegated to the Championship at the end of last season, the future of striker Che Adams has been a topic of conversation.
The forward is out of contract at the end of this season, and it seems now that the transfer window is open, talk is gathering pace about his future once again.
According to Sky Sports Transfer Centre, there are three clubs interested in signing Adams this month, with Wolves being named as one of them.
Wolves are keen on signing a striker this month and are interested in Adams once again, after seeing a move fall through in the summer.
French giants Paris St. Germain are interested in signing Leeds United defender Diego Llorente this month.
That is according to L’Equipe reporter Bertrand Latour, who states that PSG manager Luis Enrique is interested in bringing the defender to Paris.
The French side are keen on adding in the centre-back area of the team and see Llorente as a decent fit, given his ability on the ball.
The Spanish defender is currently on loan at Serie A side Roma, as he returned to the club on a season-long loan deal during the summer transfer window.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Premier League side Everton are monitoring young West Brom player Tom Fellows.
Fellows is in the final six months of his contract at the Hawthorns, and therefore, if a new deal isn’t agreed upon, he could be a free agent come the summer.
Romano states that the Toffees are keeping an eye on Fellows with a view to making a move in the summer transfer window. It is believed that Everton could look to sign Fellows and then loan him out.
The 20-year-old scored his first goal for the club in their 4-1 win over Aldershot Town on Sunday.
