Speaking to kicker ahead of Celtic’s Champions League game against Borussia Dortmund at the Westfalenstadion on Tuesday night, Nicolas Kühn (24) discussed his career to date after representing RB Leipzig in the UEFA Youth League, to spells at Ajax and Bayern Munich II before leaving for Rapid Wien, where he excelled, and now on to the Scottish champions.

“I always just wanted to play football,” said Kühn. “It was never about money or fame for me. I consciously gave up a lot, maybe I also wanted to get away from these big names.”

And tonight, Kühn will be playing under the lights at Borussia Dortmund’s Westfalenstadion in front of the Yellow Wall. It’s a moment the German attacker has dreamed of.

“I had already clearly formulated by goals back then,” said Kühn. “Namely that I wanted to get into the Champions League and then into the national team.”

Kühn, who has five goals and eight assists in nine games for Celtic already this season, has completed one of his goals. Will he work his way into Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany squad? Only time will tell, but the national coach certainly appears to be open to widen his pool of players, and Kühn is certainly a player that Nagelsmann and his staff will know of.
