Celtic should be looking to sign Adam Idah permanently from Norwich City in the summer transfer window.

That's according to Chris Sutton, who believes the Scottish giants may be able to secure a bargain with the price they might have to pay for the striker.

Having initially joined Norwich at youth level, Idah had spent his entire career with the Canaries, before joining Celtic on loan until the end of this season in the January transfer window.

Since making that move, the Republic of Ireland international has scored six goals in just nine league games for Celtic.

The latest of those came shortly after he was introduced from the bench in last weekend's thrilling 3-3 draw with Rangers in the Old Firm game at Ibrox.

In the wake of that, Sutton is now clearly keen to see Idah extend his stay in Glasgow beyond the end of this season.

Chris Sutton makes Adam Idah transfer claim

Earlier this year, it was reported that it would cost Celtic somewhere in the region of £3million to make Idah's loan move from Norwich permanent.

Given the form he is now producing, that is something Sutton, who played for both Norwich and Celtic during his career, believes they should be jumping at the opportunity to do.

Writing about Idah in his column for The Daily Record after the striker's goal against Rangers, the former England international said:

"There was some talk when he arrived that it would cost around £3m to get him on a permanent deal and if that’s the figure this summer, it would be an absolute steal.

"Idah has shown he can bring something different to the attack. Kyogo will always be the main man when fit, but it’s important to have a different option in certain games or coming off the bench.

"When you consider some of the cash spent on strikers at Celtic in recent years, that would be small change to land a player who still has more developing to do and plenty of potential. If Idah does the business in the remainder of the campaign it would be a crying shame not to buy him."

As things stand, there are still four years remaining on Idah's contract with Norwich, securing his future at Carrow Road until the end of next season.

That of course, means the Canaries are in a strong position to respond to any offers that come in for the 23-year-old this summer.

Norwich chasing Championship promotion

While Idah is trying to help Celtic win the Scottish title, his parent club are still competing for promotion to the Premier League.

Norwich currently sit sixth in the Championship table, five points clear of seventh place Coventry City, although they have played a game more.

Even so, that does mean they are in a strong position to secure a top six spot, and have a shot at promotion to the top-flight via the play-offs.

David Wagner's side are next in action on Saturday afternoon, when they travel to Deepdale to take on another play-off hopeful in the form of Preston North End.

It would seem to make a lot of sense for Celtic to try and secure a permanent deal for Idah in the summer.

He does seem to have fit in much better at Celtic than he has at times at Norwich, and he is making a big impact for Brendan Rodgers' side, with the sort of influence they will want to keep on the pitch.

However, there is not an option to buy in this deal, meaning Norwich could push their asking price up for Idah.

Given the quality of his performances, it would be no surprise if they do that, considering they will surely expect some significant interest in him.

With his contract situation also meaning there is no pressure on them to sell in the summer, Norwich would be in a strong position to do that as well.

As a result, while a £3million fee for Idah would look like a rather good deal right now, it may be hard for Celtic to secure such an agreement.
