Celtic have made an enquiry about signing Riccieli Eduardo da Silva Junior from F.C. Famalicão, according to a report from Celtic Now and Forever. The report claims that the club have made contact with the price tag of £1m expected to interest Ange Postecoglou, who is looking for a number of defensive recruitments in this transfer window.

At 22, Riccieli has played 57 games for Famalicão, who finished 9th in Portuguese Primeira Liga last year. Celtic are in need of defensive reinforcements with just Christopher Jullien and Stephen Welsh likely to be there for the beginning of the new season. Kris Ajer is expected to move on with RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen and Newcastle keen on his signature. Postecoglou and the club’s scouts will be hard at work trying to identify potential targets and begin their work to ascertain whether the players should be signed or not.

There does not appear to be anything concrete in the report but it would make sense in terms of Celtic’s recruitment over the last few seasons, try and find a diamond in the rough and try and get the best out of them before setting them up for a move to a Top 5 League.

Hopefully, if the report is to be believed, that Riccieli turns out to be better than the last Brazilian defender that Celtic signed.
