Celtic ‘Held Talks’ With This Bayern Starlet: Why The Hoops Must Step Up The Chase | OneFootball

According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg (as quoted by the Scotsman), Celtic have held talks with Christopher Scott’s entourage over a potential summer transfer. But they are not alone in the race with Brentford set to rival the Scottish giants to secure his services.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder represented Germany at various youth levels. He progressed through the academy ranks of Bayer Leverkusen before joining Bayern Munich reserves a couple of years ago. Despite making a couple of Bundesliga appearances last season, Scott has struggled for minutes this term under Julian Nagelsmann. He is now featuring for Bayern II in the fourth tier of German football, and therefore, unlikely to extend his contract beyond the ongoing campaign in order to attain first-team football.

The Bavarians raided the Hoops’ academy twice in recent years by roping in Liam Morrison and Barry Hepburn. A transfer might now take place in the opposite direction if the Bhoys succeed to fend off Brentford’s interest by offering him a more ambitious project and regular gametime.

The youngster has fired in 6 goals and registered 2 assists in his 13 Regionalliga Bayern appearances. But more importantly, he has exhibited his versatility by flourishing in various roles since recovering from a knee injury that ruled him out for a couple of months early into the season.

Why Celtic Should Rope Him In

Preferably a ‘number 10′, Scott has also been productive from the left. He is comfortable in tight spaces, whereas his swift footwork and tricky movements often open up space in opponents’ defence. His vision, creative spark and final deliveries should help him attune to the free-flowing ‘Angeball’ at Parkhead.

While the teenager does not have an immediate future with Die Roten, a move to Celtic won’t assure him instant playing time given their depth as well as quality in the centre of the pitch. Skipper Connor McGregor is irreplaceable as the deep-lying playmaker, but an array of names are competing for the two ‘number 8’ spots, including Tom Rogic, David Turnbull, Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley and Yosuke Ideguchi.

Postecoglou’s 4-3-3 does not have an outright midfield attacker, also, a left-wing role is highly contested with Filipe Jota, Daizen Maeda and Mikey Johnston challenging each other. There’s uncertainty over Jota’s future as the Celts are yet to make his loan move permanent, and the Bayern starlet must keep on impressing to fit in the manager’s plans if a transfer takes place in the coming days.
