The centre-back recently completed a productive loan spell during the second half of this season with the Belgian Pro League side.
Welsh is expected back with the Scottish champions ahead of pre-season training. Mechelen’s sporting director, Dennis Henderickx, has emphasised that bringing Welsh back is high on the club’s agenda ahead of the summer transfer window opening.

Since arriving in January, Welsh played a key role in guiding the Belgian side to the European play-offs. His impressive stint at Mechelen has drawn attention, with several Belgian and European clubs now closely monitoring his status.
The 25-year-old found the net for the first time with Mechelen in his final game against FCV Dender over the weekend, finally enjoying the consistent first-team action he had been seeking.
After limited opportunities at Celtic earlier in the season, Welsh relished the chance to build momentum which saw him rack up 19 appearances for Mechelen.

Speaking previously via Daily Record, Welsh opened up on his loan spell in Belgium: “I have loved every minute of it,” he said. “I think it is the best thing I have done, it is almost like a refresh for six months to go and play football at a top level.”
The central defender remains under contract with Celtic for another two years. Much will hinge on how Brendan Rodgers envisions Welsh fitting into his squad for the 2025/2026 campaign.
At the moment, Rodgers has Cameron Carter-Vickers, Auston Trusty, Liam Scales, and Maik Nawrocki as his current options in central defence.
A recent report from Sky Sports outlined that Celtic will welcome permanent offers for Welsh, Gustaf Lagerbielke, Marco Tilio, Luis Palma and Maik Nawrocki in the summer. It may be best for all parties, including Welsh that he finds a new home.
