Celtic could miss out on landing key target Kelechi Iheanacho as Middlesbrough are ‘optimistic’ about being able to bring him in, according to the BBC.
The 28-year-old has found goals hard to come by at Spanish giants Sevilla this season, as a result of which they have signed Akor Adams from Montpellier.
That has pushed the former Leicester City forward down the pecking order and he is a player Sevilla are ready to let go.
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers wants to take Iheanacho to Glasgow to boost his forward options.
The Bhoys have just sold Kyogo Furuhashi to Rennes and the former Leicester City man, who Rodgers managed at the Foxes, fits the bill.
However, Celtic could well lose out as Middlesbrough are closing in on the Sevilla man.
Michael Carrick’s team are optimistic about signing the Manchester City academy graduate on loan before the transfer window closes.
Iheanacho left England to move to Spain in July last year and has also been linked with Leeds United in recent weeks.
