His Name is McNamara – The Autobiography of Jackie McNamara is published on 6 September and is the first of three big Celtic blockbuster books coming out this autumn. Jackie’s former team-mate Alan Thompson will publish his biography – and promises to pull no punches and our own Matt Corr is back with Harry Hood – Twice as Good, which is published by Celtic Star Books.

His Name is McNamara is a riveting story of the life and career of football manager and former player Jackie McNamara. Jackie played for a series of clubs but is best known for the trophy-laden decade he spent at Celtic, culminating in a spell as club captain and a Scottish international career. His departure from Celtic in 2005 was controversial and abrupt, taking the football world by surprise when he signed for Wolves despite a last-minute attempt by the club to keep him in Glasgow.

After spells at Aberdeen, Falkirk and Partick Thistle, he finished playing and moved into management with Thistle, Dundee United and York City. Jackie pulls no punches as he gives us the inside track on a career at the highest level of the game and the battling qualities he needed to succeed. It was those qualities that he drew on when his life was threatened by a brain aneurism in early 2020.

His Name is McNamara is a story of success and survival.

Jackie McNamara has collaborated with Gerard McDade to write his life story. Gerard is the author of Celtic: The Supersonic 70s! and The Last Line: My Autobiography (with Packie Bonner). In addition to co-writing a stage-play on a former Celtic player, he has worked extensively for the club, writing, producing and presenting. He is also PR Officer and Head of Media for Greenock Morton FC.

There’s also an upcoming book by Alan Thompson and of course Matt Corr’s Biography of Harry Hood, which will be published by Celtic Star Books in October.  The first Celtic book published this year was also by The Celtic Star – David Potter telling the story of Celtic’s Icicle Alec McNair – the greatest Celtic Story never told, until now!
