Celtic have dominated the nominations for the Scottish Football Writer’s Association Awards. The Scottish Champions have already won the Premier Sports League Cup and retained the Premiership title but are 90 minutes away from a Treble with a Scottish Cup Final against Aberdeen to contend with.

Given the consistency and quality of Celtic over the last campaign, it is no surprise that a number of nominees hail from Celtic Park. Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has been nominated as the Irishman navigated Celtic through to the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League as well as dominating domestically. Rodgers will go up against Falkirk’s John McGlynn, Hibs’ David Gray and Aberdeen boss Jimmy Thelin. The Swedish manager was an early favourite for the accolade but Aberdeen’s form dipped off in the second half of the season.
Formerly part of Rodgers’ backroom team during his first spell, McGlynn won the PFA Scotland Manager of the Year Award for his role in Falkirk’s promotion to the Premiership.

Celtic talisman Daizen Maeda has been nominated for Player of the Year and it is expected that the hitman will pick up the award given his blistering form. The Japanese Internationalist has 33 goals and 12 assists in 48 appearances for Celtic this season and won the PFA Scotland Award. Maeda is joined on the shortlist by skipper Callum McGregor, who is the heartbeat of this Celtic team, as well as Dundee’s Simon Murray and Hibernian’s Nectarios Triantis.

Given that you require to be eligible for Scotland’s U21s to be considered for the Young Player of the Year award, no Celtic players were nominated for the award with Celtic target Lennon Miller nominated with David Watson (Kilmarnock), Bobby Wales (Kilmarnock) and James Wilson (Hearts). Motherwell’s Miller picked up the PFA Scotland Award and it is expected that he will leave Fir Park in the summer with a number of teams vying for his signature.
The winners will be announced at the annual dinner on Sunday 18 May.
