After reaching the group stages of the world’s most prestigious club competition in women’s football, Elena Sadiku’s exciting Celtic side were drawn to face Chelsea, Real Madrid and FC Twente.
Celtic begin with a home tie against Dutch side FC Twente a week on Tuesday before the mouthwatering match in the Spanish capital against Real Madrid, before taking on Chelsea in Celtics second home match of the group stages.
A reverse trip to London kick starts the second round of matches, leading into a final home outing against Real Madrid and then rounding off the six fixtures with a trip to take on FC Twente in December.
Realistically Chelsea are the favourites to win this group quite comfortably and perhaps the best we can hope for is a point at home. Real Madrid at home is a possibility for an historic result and the two games against FC Twente are in the balance, we could win both, but just as easily the results could go the other way.
Elena Sadiku will have the chance to get off to a flying start in match-day one against the Dutch Champions
Full details relating to venue confirmation and ticketing information to follow next week. One game is going to be played at Celtic Park and the other two at New Douglas Park in Hamilton, the new home round for Celtic FC Women.
Initially we thought that the Real Madrid home match would be the obvious choice to be played at Paradise but now that the fixtures are out it surely must be the game against FC Twente on match-day one where Celtic can gain momentum through the bigger support and build interest for the two games against the bigger two clubs who may find Hamilton’s ground challenging.
