Celta Vigo to bring in former Barcelona midfielder with exits on the horizon

Celta Vigo have had something of a quieter transfer window this summer compared to last, but did lose star striker Jorgen Strand Larsen to Wolves. They are focused primarily on their clearout operation before making additions though.

Already seven players have left the club, and Sporting Director Marco Garces is intent on five more, as per Relevo. Veteran full-back Kevin Vazquez knows he has not place in the side, as is the case for striker Goncalo Paciencia. Tadeo Allende and Unai Nunez would be allowed to leave for the right offer too, and they are the only players that Celta would look to replace.

Central midfielder Alfon, who played for the B team last year at the age of 25, but is to Claudio Giraldez’s liking, could leave in search of opportunities. The biggest issue is that there is no obvious place for him in the squad. Still less so if a loan move for Ilaix Moriba is confirmed. Sport say that an agreement has been reached with RB Leipzig for a loan move for the ex-Barcelona midfielder.

The Galician side are hoping for a season where they will comfortably avoid relegation under Giraldez, who kept Celta up last year. For their centenary year, Celta invested heavily in players, manager Rafael Benitez and Luis Campos’ vision, but are now picking up the pieces after it all went wrong last year. Anastasios Douvikas will no doubt be the replacement for Strand Larsen, and actually scored the same amount of goals as Strand Larsen last time round. He will likely have plenty more opportunities to surpass that total next season.
