Real Madrid Castilla centre-back Quique Ribes is closer than ever to joining Celta Vigo, claims a recent report from Defensa Central.
It is known that the 21-year-old is not expected to be part of Xabi Alonso’s rotation plans this season, nor feature in the promotions from the club’s reserve side.
Furthermore, with Alvaro Arbeloa also backing the move, Ribes now seems poised to take the next step in his career, joining Celta Vigo where he is likely to play with their reserve side, Celta Fortuna.
Celta Vigo have built a strong reputation for developing some of Spain’s finest young talents, and Ribes is set to become the latest to benefit from their system.
Reports close to the La Liga side indicate that Real Madrid have already given the green light for negotiations, allowing Celta to work on finalising the deal in recent weeks.
The Valdebebas staff believe that a move away from the club’s facilities is the best path for Ribes’ progression, with Celta seen as one of the most ideal destinations.
For Real Madrid, the decision is based on ensuring Ribes gains consistent first-team experience in an environment that prioritises player development.
Celta Vigo’s history of nurturing young players into established La Liga performers makes them a natural choice.
The move is expected to be finalised in the coming hours, with Real Madrid set to monitor Ribes’ progress closely from afar.
The club values his potential and sees this as a strategic step rather than a permanent parting of ways.
By joining a club that trusts in youth, Ribes will have the opportunity to play regular top-flight football — something that would be difficult to secure at Real Madrid given the current depth in defence.
For the young centre-back, the move offers a chance to prove himself at the highest level, while for Real Madrid, it is an investment in his future growth.
