Luton Town enjoyed an incredible 2021/22 Championship campaign, securing a sixth-placed spot before being narrowly edged out of the play-offs by Huddersfield Town.

Progressing at an exciting rate under Nathan Jones, the Hatters will be setting their sights on defying the odds once again to challenge at the top end of the division.

After welcoming Alfie Doughty to Kenilworth Road yesterday evening, Cauley Woodrow could return to the Bedfordshire club this summer.

What do we know so far?

As per a Tweet from the Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, Barnsley have given Woodrow permission to speak to the Hatters regarding a potential return to Kenilworth Road.

Progressing through the academy ranks at Luton, the forward was sold to Fulham more than 10 years ago, with the Bedfordshire outfit still non-league at that point.

With Barnsley suffering relegation to League One, a move to Luton would represent an opportunity for the striker to remain in the second tier.

Is it likely to happen?

Given that Luton now represents a step up in the Football League pyramid, and the romance of it all, there is certainly a good chance of the Hatters securing a deal for the 27-year-old.

Possessing a year left on his current deal at Oakwell, it provides the Tykes with an opportunity to secure a fee for his services, something that could help them prepare for life in League One.

Luton do not possess the biggest of budgets and are by no means big payers in the Championship, however, the project Jones has created can be seen as a big attraction.
