And the 24-year-old, who has only played 25 times for the national team, has admitted that he needs to think about what happens next.

“I have to disconnect from many things and think about what to do with my future,” he told ESPN.

“In my [club] team I’m very relaxed, I’m talking about things that could happen with the national team, they are my own issues, personal ones and I have to see and be very honest with myself.”

Pressed on what he meant, Salcedo said: “I’m going to look at it from a objective point of view, talk about it with my family, be honest with myself. There’s a lot to think about, a lot of things in my head right now.
