Carlos Corberan has opened up on his first meeting with the prospective new West Brom owner Shilen Patel.

It was confirmed earlier this month that a company led by Shilen and his father Kiran Patel have agreed to purchase 87.8 per cent of the Championship side.

Guochuan Lai’s time at West Brom is set to come to an end after a tumultuous few years owning the Baggies.

Supporters are excited by the prospect of what will come next once the takeover is finalised.

However, speculation has started over the manager’s future at the Hawthorns, with it being claimed that Torino chief Ivan Juric is being lined up by the new owners as Corberan’s replacement.

Corberan believes that the new owner can bring a lot of resources to the Midlands outfit to help them grow and succeed.

The 40-year-old is excited by the arrival of Patel, but stressed that the financial situation at the club hasn’t changed just yet, as they await the deal being finalised.

He is someone that is going to bring a lot of resources and energy to help put the club in the place it deserves to be,” said Corberan, via Express & Star.

It’s not the same if you have money than if you don’t, to buy whatever you want. You need to adapt to the possibilities that you have.

We are still in the same part of the process. Everything is still waiting to be completed and we understand the excitement of the people because the staff, the players and the fans all know that it’s something positive for the club and everyone is looking forward to it being complete.

I met him after the game against Southampton. Unfortunately it was a difficult day for me because I was sent off but I met him personally and we had the possibility to have a conversation and some words.

It was a very simple conversation. It was the first time I met him.”

West Brom league position

West Brom are fighting for promotion to the Premier League despite struggling with financial issues off the pitch, sitting fifth in the table.

Corberan has earned a lot of plaudits for his work at the Hawthorns over the last 12 months or so.

It remains to be seen whether the new owners will stick with him as manager, but he is a very popular figure among supporters.

Corberan will be hoping he will be given the resources to help guide the club back to the top flight, with the team having finished ninth in the table last year.

Corberan deserves opportunity under new owners

It would be a bad call from the new owners to opt to change managers when Corberan has earned so much respect from the supporters.

Given the circumstances off the pitch, he has done extremely well during his time at the club.

So if Patel can give him the resources to compete properly, then they have every chance of fighting for a place in the top flight.

A play-off place is a real possibility this campaign regardless, which would be a great achievement for Corberan and his team.
