Real of course marked their return to action a short time ago.

Fresh off sealing glory in the UEFA Super Cup in midweek, Los Blancos made the trip to Son Moix, for a meeting with RCD Mallorca.

When all was said and done on a disappointing night’s work, though, the Spanish champions were forced to settle for a share of the spoils.

This came after Rodrygo’s early opener was cancelled out decisively by Vedat Muriqi early in the 2nd-half.

From here, Real Madrid toiled in their efforts to carve out a winner, looking every bit of a side still finding their feet early in the campaign.

One individual, though, who has nevertheless come in for heavy blame for the visitors’ dropped points at Son Moix comes in the form of the aforementioned Carlo Ancelotti.

With his side in desperate need of a spark, Real’s headmaster waited until the game’s final minutes to introduce all of Arda Güler, Brahim Díaz and Lucas Vázquez off the bench.

The trio, in turn, were afforded minimal time to influence proceedings, with the Blancos faithful having been quick to make clear their disillusionment with as much post-match.

Speaking to the media in his ensuing press conference, the ongoing criticism being aimed in his direction was in turn put to Ancelotti himself.

The Italian, in his response, though, remained characteristically cool-headed:

“The substitutions were late? I don’t want to comment. Everyone has an opinion. Maybe they were late or maybe not.”
