Brian Barry-Murphy is looking to stamp his authority on his Cardiff squad ahead of the new season.

It's been a quiet summer in the Welsh capital so far, with no new arrivals yet to step foot through the door, and just a couple of players, including Dimitrios Goutas and Roko Simic, having departed the club.

The Bluebirds are hoping to put their dismal 24/25 season behind them that saw them finish rock-bottom of the Championship, and thus return to League One football for the first time in over two decades.

However, Cardiff are finally set to make their first new addition of the summer.

A report from WalesOnline on Sunday has revealed that the Bluebirds are closing in on a loan deal for FC Copenhagen goalkeeper, Nathan Trott.

The 26-year-old was first linked with a move to the Welsh capital on Saturday, with a report from Danish outlet Bold claiming that City were interested in the former West Ham United shot-stopper.

However, it's now understood that he is likely to be confirmed as Cardiff City's first signing of this summer, and indeed the Barry-Murphy era, in the coming days.

A further report from Tipsbladet states that Cardiff will have an option to buy the Bermudan keeper, but only if they win promotion to the Championship next season.

Trott could be an excellent signing for Cardiff City at League One level

Cardiff City's goalkeeping department feels like it needs an injection of fresh blood ahead of the new season.

It's believed that Ethan Horvath is potentially looking for a move away from the club this summer in order to better his chances of making the USA's World Cup squad, with clubs across Europe and in the MLS seemingly having him on their radar.

Other than Horvath, Barry-Murphy's other shot-stopping options are limited to Jak Alnwick and Matthew Turner respectively, with the latter yet to make a senior appearance for the Bluebirds.

Therefore, the acquisition of Trott could provide some desperately needed new competition in-between the sticks, and potentially hand Barry-Murphy his new starting goalkeeper for the 25/26 campaign.

Trott spent time with Valencia before signing for West Ham United in January 2016. After spending the 19/20 season out on loan with AFC Wimbledon in League One, he would make his Hammers debut - and indeed his only appearance for the club - in a 4-0 FA Cup win over Doncaster Rovers in January 2021.

After spending the 21/22 season on loan with French side Nancy, Trott would spend the next two years on loan with Danish side Vejle Boldklub, before signing for FC Copenhagen last summer.

He made 17 league appearances for them last season, helping the club win the Danish Superligaen for a 16th time, and also made 10 outings in the UEFA Conference League.

As such, Trott brings some very solid pedigree with him to Cardiff City, and could be a real classy keeper at League One level for the Bluebirds.
