Cardiff City owner see’s value of Kortrijk continue to slide as side remains bottom of the Belgian Pro League | OneFootball

After another defeat at the weekend, Kortrijk manager Glen De Boeck was keen to point out the obvious problem his side are facing. They can’t score, and he doesn’t have the quality within the squad to change that. This was obvious in the summer, with the departure of Faiz Selemani depleting the sides goal scoring options from last season. On loan Cardiff City forward Isaak Davies is the clubs top scorer with three goals, but it is within his parent club that the problem for Kortrijk is permeating.

Vincent Tan wanted to sell Kortrijk in the summer. However, when he was almost hoodwinked by a fake takeover from the Kaminski Group, Kortrijk had lost months of preparation time for the new season. Ed Still was given an incomplete squad and expected to keep the side up. Unsurprisingly, he struggled, and was subsequently sacked with De Boeck his replacement. Since his arrival, the side have won once and drawn once. They’ve lost the other four games and sit bottom of the league.

In the summer, any perspective buyer would have at least had time to put things in place to improve the sides chances of remaining in the Pro League and thus being an attractive prospect. Now, Kortrijk looked destined for the second tier of Belgian football. The bottom four will all fight it out at the end of the season to avoid the two automatic relegation spots, while the side in third bottom will play a play-off with a second tier side. Kortrijk are already seven points adrift of automatic safety, while the gap to OH Leuven in third bottom is three points.

January could be crucial. If a new owner hasn’t come in by then, Tan may well have to dig into his pockets one last time to try and keep the side up and improve his chances of selling at his desired price. If not, he will have to accept a lesser fee for the club, and then fans will have to suffer a relegation as a result.
