Philogene, who only signed from Aston Villa the previous summer, has been courted by numerous Premier League outfits after an outstanding individual campaign at the MKM Stadium, including West Ham United and newcomers Ipswich Town.

However, a more stunning revelation comes in the form of Barcelona's reported transfer interest towards Philogene, which poses a significant test for Hull's resolve during the off-season.

It is believed that negotiations are currently ongoing between the relevant parties regarding a potential deal, although there appears to be a sticking point.

Carlton Palmer's Hull City verdict following Barcelona's Jaden Philogene transfer interest

Whilst speaking exclusively to Football League World, pundit Carlton Palmer explained: "News coming out of Hull City for a while now is that winger Jaden Philogene has been subject to a shock move to Spanish giants Barcelona.

"Philogene has been a standout performer for Hull this season, just missing out on the play-offs, played 32 games, bagging 12 goals and six assists for the Tigers.

"Philogene joined Hull from Aston Villa in a £5m move last summer, he's been the subject of Premier League clubs who are interested in him and now this interest from Barcelona.

However, Palmer noted a potential complication in the deal to bring Philogene to Barcelona and described Hull's ideal stance in the transfer.

"Hull are looking for 30 million euros and (Barcelona) would ideally like to take him on loan and agree a permanent deal," he continued.

"I don't think that's going to work for Hull, I would think they'd want a permanent deal for him to go so they can reinvest the money.

"Unless the deal is that he goes on loan and it has to be turned into a permanent deal, not that there is an option to buy, if it's just moving when the money's got to be paid then I'm sure he'll be on his way to Barcelona.

"Before letting him go, Hull will want to know they've got guaranteed money coming in to get his replacement, so we'll have to see, negotiations are ongoing.

"It is a shock, but he has done very, very well for Hull."

Barcelona transfer may be too soon for Hull City's Jaden Philogene

There's not much of a contest for the footballing ceiling that Philogene has.

Still only 22, Philogene possesses the raw, innate attributes - mind-bending flair, audacious self-confidence and soaring speed - to ascend to the world football's very pinnacle in the future, so Barcelona's interest may not be as surprising as it seems at face value.

But that's not to say that he should be moving to the Nou Camp just yet.

For all his undoubted talent, Philogene has only enjoyed two full seasons - just one of which where he can be categorised among the division's finest - of Championship football, and he's only made a small handful of cameo top-flight appearances in his career during his time at Villa Park.

The admiration from Barcelona is understandable, with Philogene envisaged as a plan-b signing in the event that their pursuit of Spain star Nico Williams fails to come to fruition.

Indeed, a wing combination of Philogene and 16-year-old global sensation Lamine Yamal is a captivating proposition to say the least, and the youthful ages of the duo means that they could, theoretically speaking, be a devastating double-act for years to come.

And maybe they will.

For now, though, the rational ultimatum appears to be for Philogene to continue honing his craft in English football and whilst he would still benefit from remaining at Hull for one more season, the tricky winger has also merited a shot in the Premier League.

A domestic top-flight transfer this summer would represent a more gradual transition for Philogene as opposed to making the colossal leap to Barcelona, and excelling in the Premier League would put him right on course to earn a future move to one of the continent's superclubs.

There will be no shortage of suitors, that's for sure.
