Everyone knows that France has provided a conveyor belt of superb talent for the footballing world, especially over the past 20-odd years - Zinedine Zidane, Thierry Henry, Franck Ribéry, Karim Benzema, Olivier Giroud, Hugo Lloris, N'Golo Kanté, Raphaël Varane, ad infinitum - but with Kylian Mbappé opting to stay in Ligue 1 Uber Eats with Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, it seems the focus is shifting somewhat to the quality of the competition where all these players got their starts.
Ligue 1 Uber Eats 'much more competitive, fast-paced' In an interview with Italian website Tuttomercatoweb, Capello was glowing in his praise of France's top flight, hinting that the top flight in Italy - whose national team failed qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar - could take a leaf out of the Ligue 1 Uber Eats playbook. "The French league is much more competitive and fast-paced than Serie A," said Capello. "In Italy, the referees whistle too much and the rhythm is bland. Fortunately tiki-taka has given way to more direct football. We have to hope for this to continue and hope that new talents are born, because after the victory at the European Championships we lost our way."
'Mbappé has everything: Pure power, speed and, above all, goals'
Les Bleus - who count among their number four players who ply their trade in Ligue 1 Uber Eats, Mbappé chief among them - take on Lionel Messi's Argentina in the World Cup final on Sunday night! And Capello is looking forward to it...
"It's Argentina against France, but also Messi versus Mbappé," said Capello of the mouth-watering clash. "Leo played the first games almost walking, but against Croatia I was fascinated by his play. We saw Barcelona-era Messi again. Then there is Mbappé, who has everything: he is pure power, speed and above all goals. I predict an exciting final, but with few goals and I can't rule out extra-time nor a penalty shoot-out."
