Paterson helped his side overcome the threat posed by Argyle as he scored what turned out to be the winning goal in this fixture.

After being teed up by Will Vaulks, Paterson swivelled and fired an effort past Plymouth goalkeeper Michael Cooper.

Cooper denied Aden Flint from doubling Wednesday’s advantage by producing a fine stop before being substituted due to injury.

In the closing stages of the clash, Wednesday had a goal scored by George Byers disallowed for offside.

Plymouth then missed two chances to equalise as the Owls held on to seal all three points in front of their supporters.

Wednesday will be looking to extend the gap between them and Ipswich Town, who are currently third in the standings, to nine points this weekend by defeating Kieran McKenna’s side at Portman Road.

Instagram, Paterson admitted that it was a big victory for the Owls.

“Big win for the troops.”

The Verdict

This particular triumph could prove to be a decisive moment in the 2022/23 campaign as the Owls now lead the way in League One.

Under the guidance of Darren Moore, Wednesday have managed to embark on an incredibly impressive run of results at this level as they have won 11 of their last 16 games in this division.

Moore will be hoping that Paterson will be able to overcome the injury that he sustained against Plymouth ahead of this weekend’s meeting with Ipswich.

Paterson has provided a direct goal contribution in three of his last four league appearances and thus will be brimming with confidence heading into the closing stages of the season.

By maintaining his performance levels between now and the end of the campaign, the forward could potentially earn a new deal at Hillsborough as his current contract is set to expire in May.
