Callum McGregor’s post-match interview might have been cut short by a water bottle drenching from Alistair Johnston, but the Celtic captain was still able to savour another title success – his ninth in the green and white Hoops and his third as club captain.
The 30-year-old midfielder has, as always, been a key figure in the team, always leading by example on and off the pitch, and having battled back from injury in recent weeks, he’s helped to steer the team home to another league title.
Celtic’s status as Champions of Scotland was confirmed tonight (Wednesday) with a 5-0 victory over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park, and it was a performance worthy of the finest team in Scotland.
“It’s amazing to get over the line,” he said. “It’s been a difficult season with difficult circumstances – a change of manager and change of players after a successful group of players, so just to get over the line is incredible.
'It’s been amazing resilience shown by this group, and then when you add in the fans the support that we’ve got, it’s just incredible.'
“We always knew we had a strong group, strong personalities and with a strong leader in the manager, backed up by amazing staff.
"And we knew that once we got going and got the players fit, you see the football we were playing tonight…” (Alistair Johnston makes his intervention with a water bottle!)
