Davide Calabria is ready to leave Milan for the first time in his career and spend the next few months at Bologna.

It’s been a steady decline for Calabria over the last few seasons and in this campaign he completely lost his place in the starting XI of the Rossoneri, watching Emerson Royal (a summer signing who nearly got sold in January) playing while he watched his friends from the bench.

Calabria did not find success with Paulo Fonseca and the arrival of Sérgio Conceição did not change the fortunes of the 28-year-old, who is the current Captain of Milan and has been at the club his entire career.

After the Parma game, Conceição and Calabria were filmed having a very heated argument on the pitch. In addition, his contract is due to expire in June 2025 and the club never really opened talks with him over a renewal. All these circumstances have led to Davide leaving Milan now.

Bologna will be the new home of Calabria, at least until the end of the season. In the summer the fullback will be a free agent again and will be available to make his next move. Daniele Longo reports that the Diavolo will earn €1m + €0.5m in bonuses from selling Calabria.

Davide has already left Milanello for the last time and said goodbye to his friends. Afterwards he stopped by to briefly speak to reporters; with tears in his eyes, he said: “It’s difficult, I will miss everything, everything I’ve experienced here. I will always carry every memory I have with me, I am grateful for what I’ve been through at Milan. How have the last few days been? Difficult, like when you break up with your wife [laughs]. A new chapter will begin and I wish everyone the best.”

Having already signed Kyle Walker and despite losing Emerson Royal to injury until practically the end of the season, Milan will not sign a new fullback. Walker, Álex Jiménez and Filippo Terracciano are available there.
