The Serie A season has just two games left to play and just one point separates the top two as the title race winds its way down to the wire in thrilling fashion.

A week ago, it looked very much that the Scudetto was set to head south and return to Napoli for the fourth time in the club's history.

That is still the likeliest destination for the championship but their 2-2 draw with Genoa at home last week has opened the door for Inter to defend their crown, their 2-0 win over Torino on the same day closing the gap to a solitary point.

All of which sets up more drama on the penultimate weekend of the campaign.

On Sunday night, the league leaders travel to Parma, while at the same the Nerazzurri welcome Lazio to San Siro.

At least on paper, it would seem that Inter have the harder fixture given that Parma effectively have safety secured, while Lazio are in the thick of the fight for Champions League football, although will deal with two big suspensions with captain Mattia Zaccagni and Luca Pellegrini banned.

And with their narrow lead, Napoli remain big favourites to get over the line and avoid becoming the only

However, their coach Antonio Conte is all too aware of how quickly things can change during the anxiety-inducing month of May in a title race.

In the three points for a win era, only the Juventus side he played for in 2000 have thrown away more than a three point lead with four games remaining - a fate he is desperate to avoid repeating as a coach.

"I'll talk only if and when it happens because I've both won and lost titles on the final day," he said recently. "Those who win write the history books. The others can only read them."

Quite what will be written remains very much up in the air.

The biggest drama could be yet to come too and there remains a possibility that the teams end the campaign level on points.

Should that happen, we will be treated to a 39th fixture - a single game play-off to determine the destination of the title at the home of the higher-ranked side.

It would only be the second time in Serie A history that this has happened - the last time being in 1964 when Bologna defeated Inter.

Another play-off would be a fitting finale to a season that has been filled with twists and turns.

You can be sure there are more to come too.
