CAF: Here are the Egyptian stadiums approved for African club competitions
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the list of Egyptian stadiums approved to host matches for CAF interclub competitions for the 2025/26 season. This announcement comes as a major surprise in Egypt.
For the first time, the iconic Borg Al Arab Stadium is not among the selected venues. This decision raises many questions. Borg Al Arab Stadium is one of Egypt's largest and most emblematic stadiums. It has always been part of the venues chosen to host matches of this caliber. While Borg Al Arab Stadium is excluded for a number of reasons, several other stadiums have been approved by CAF to host CAF interclub competition matches.
These include the Cairo International Stadium, Air Defense Stadium, the new Suez Stadium, the Suez Canal Authority Stadium, as well as the Al Salam Stadium. These venues meet CAF's strict criteria in terms of security, capacity, and facility quality. Egyptian clubs will now have to adjust their logistical and sporting strategies to this new configuration of approved sites, while possibly awaiting the rehabilitation or future reevaluation of Borg Al Arab Stadium. The teams involved are Al Ahly, Pyramids FC, Al Masry, and Zamalek.
