Burnley look set for the Championship, with relegation from the Premier League looming.

The Clarets achieved promotion from the second tier last season, after finishing as Champions on 101 points. In the summer, they looked to strengthen the squad with Vincent Kompany at the helm, but unfortunately their efforts have not been enough as their relegation is impending.

Burnley have been rather disappointing this season, and they now sit on just 24 points with two games remaining in the top flight. One summer signing that came with plenty of excitement ahead of this season was young Frenchman, Han-Noah Massengo. The 22-year-old signed back in August after impressing many in the Championship for Bristol City, as well as in France.

Despite showing glimpses of his bright talent for Bristol City, he is yet to score a goal in English football but Burnley will be hoping that they can change his fortunes next season and help him build on the attacking side of his game.

This season, Massengo has been forced to sit on the sidelines for the most part, but with the Clarets facing a return to the Championship, the Frenchman is bound to get plenty of game time, thus providing him an opportunity to finally find the net; something he was unable to do at Bristol City or at all in his senior career.

Massengo's Bristol City spell

Massengo has been highly rated since he was very young, having progressed through the ranks at AS Monaco. The Frenchman made his first Champions League appearances as a 17-year-old, featuring in the starting XI against Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.

In 2019, Bristol City came calling in an astounding transfer that saw the 18-year-old, at the time, arrive at Ashton Gate from France for a fee that could rise to around £8 million and Bristol City supporters were rightfully thrilled.

The young midfielder would make more than 100 appearances for City over three and a half seasons in the Championship. He showed his exciting talent in glimpses and enjoyed spells in the team but never really established himself as the key player that the Ashton Gate faithful were hoping he would.

There was certainly plenty to like about his game during his time with the Robins but one thing that the South West club failed to get out of him was goals. In fact, he failed to score a single goal during his time at Ashton Gate and has yet to find the net at senior level in his professional career.

Massengo spent the second half of last season on loan at Auxerre in Ligue 1, where he impressed but once again failed to find the back of the net.

Burnley looking to end Massengo's goalless run

Massengo still has three years remaining on his current contract, meaning he is likely to stick around next season at Turf Moor. It is almost certain that Burnley will be playing in the Championship, so they should utilise Massengo, who has performed well in the division previously.

At just 22 years of age, the Frenchman shows a lot of promise despite being sidelined for most of this season, so Burnley supporters should be excited to have such a player among their ranks going into next season. One area that the Clarets will be looking to develop Massengo is the final third.

Scoring goals as a midfielder is far from the be-all and end-all but he'll no doubt be desperate to break his duck.

Burnley are likely to challenge for the title next season if they do fall back into the Championship, meaning Massengo should have plenty of opportunities to find the back of the net.

Bristol City were unable to get goals out of the Frenchman, but perhaps a strong Burnley side under Vincent Kompany will be able to do so.
